Data stored locally
PaperRss stores subscription URLs, feeds and entries, read and starred state, folders, feed content, on-demand extracted article caches, AI results, and app settings on your Mac. Extracted article caches can be cleared in Settings.
Credentials
- Credentials for services such as FreshRSS are stored in macOS Keychain.
- A user-configured AI API key is currently stored in PaperRss's local app preferences on that Mac. It is not uploaded to a PaperRss server, but it is not encrypted at the level provided by Keychain. Do not store a sensitive key in a shared macOS user account.
Network requests and AI
The client may connect directly to feed and publisher servers, image hosts, FreshRSS, GitHub/Sparkle update sources, and the AI endpoint selected by the user. If a feed supplies insufficient content and you open an article, the client may request the public article page and extract readable content locally.
An AI provider is contacted only after the user configures an endpoint and invokes an AI feature. Depending on the feature, a request may include the article title, all or part of the article text, selected text, nearby paragraphs, the user's question, a custom prompt, and the target language. The provider processes this data under its own terms and privacy policy.
Telemetry and website
The current app includes no product-analytics SDK, advertising SDK, cross-app tracking, or maintainer-operated reading-data collection server. The website is hosted on GitHub Pages, uses localStorage to remember language, and obtains web fonts from Google Fonts. GitHub and Google may receive ordinary request information. External sites are contacted after the user follows their links.
Your choices and contact
You may use PaperRss without configuring AI, clear extracted article caches, remove service accounts, or delete the app's support data. Third-party retention and international processing depend on the services you choose. For privacy, deletion, or security questions, email ohmyangboy@gmail.com. Do not put API keys, private feed URLs, or sensitive article content in a public issue.
02 / CONTENT & COPYRIGHT
Content and Copyright Notice
Content sources
PaperRss first uses content supplied by RSS, Atom, JSON Feed, or a service connected by the user. If a feed supplies insufficient content, opening an article may trigger an ordinary request to the public article URL identified by the feed and create a reading cache only on the user's device. PaperRss does not currently operate a service that centrally extracts article bodies, builds a cross-user full-text corpus, or republishes articles to the public.
Ownership
Rights in third-party articles, images, audio, video, titles, identifiers, and trademarks remain with their authors, publishers, or other rightsholders. Availability through a feed or public webpage does not waive copyright or transfer it to PaperRss. PaperRss's GPL-3.0 applies only to project code and expressly licensed project material, not third-party content read by users.
Usage boundaries
- Access only feeds, accounts, and content you are authorized to use, and comply with applicable law and valid terms.
- Do not use PaperRss to bypass login requirements, paywalls, CAPTCHAs, or other access controls.
- Without permission, do not bulk-export, publicly share, sell, train on, index, or republish complete articles.
- Before sending content to an AI provider, confirm that you may do so and review the provider's policies.
Rightsholder requests
A rightsholder may send the work, feed, article URL or domain, basis of rights, and requested action to ohmyangboy@gmail.com. The maintainer will review verifiable requests in good faith and may take reasonable action such as correction, removal, technical restriction, or a domain exception in a later version.
